What Makes a Valuable Vintage Poster ‘valuable’?
Vintage Posters carry the essence of “times gone by”. Usually more than 50 years in age or older, these Posters display society and its various aspects in an art form. In a gamut of subjects from food and entertainment to literature, sports, and travel Vintage Posters are similar to what antique jewels mean to style buffs.
A Vintage poster, irrespective of the theme on which it is created, carries along an interesting insight about the life and times of the people of that period. While they originated as works commissioned by advertisers, by the best commercial artists available during that time period, these pieces of art scale far above being simple posters; for the years to come, they will be mementos of the period while focusing on a prevalent issue of the time. They are objects d'art that tell an important story of our past.
However, it must not be forgotten that that most of the Original Vintage Posters were destroyed during their actual use. They were mounted on walls and discarded or simply ripped away on availability of the next issue or image. While there were hundreds of posters produced in editions, only a handful survived in their original state.
The facts corresponding to the rarity, condition, artist, and the image itself of a poster determine the final selling price. While some prefer Vintage Posters with a specific subject matter, some buyers look for particular color scheme; and still others prefer the style of a particular Vintage Poster artist.
But, in all circumstances, the better the physical condition of a poster is the higher its value.
